Glatz parasol in a wind tunnel

Wind stability

In wind, large forces act on a parasol. How securely it stands depends on three things: the parasol model, the mounting and the weight of the base.

The right model

For wind-exposed spots and roof terraces Glatz recommends the wind-stable centre-pole and cantilever parasols of the F line, for example FORTINO® Pro, FORTERO® Pro, FORTELLO® Pro and FORTANO®. PIAZZA® and PALAZZO® Style are also described as wind-stable. Cantilever parasols generally need heavier bases.

The right mounting

Fixed anchors such as a ground sleeve set in concrete are best suited to high wind speeds; the stated maximum wind speeds are only guaranteed with them. With wheeled bases or other mobile solutions they cannot be guaranteed.

The right base weight

The larger the parasol, the heavier the base must be. Glatz engineers calculate and test the base weight for each model and size; it is shown on the product page and in the model's fact sheet. The diameter of the pole also plays a part in the base size.

Original accessories and furling correctly

Wind resistance and the Glatz warranty only apply with original Glatz accessories. If the parasol is also furled correctly, you avoid pinching and chafing damage and premature wear from the fabric flapping in the wind.
